GennY speaks.

Last week I had this amazing opportunity to be involved in a podcast with a bunch of cool and interesting people from Generation Y. It’s called GennY, the podcast that is and speakers featured in its pilot episode were – Krisandro, Dorothy, Yinqi and of course the mastermind, Daryl. But first, just what is the Generation Y and what sets it apart from the rest?

Born between 1977 to 2000, Gen Y is basically the generation that had the taste of the internet when it first sprouted. We’re the generation that’s heavily into instant messaging, information streaming, blogs, file sharing and of course, social networking. Wiki explains this better than I do of course.

Pop on over to Daryl‘s blog to hear the podcast. He’s even included some show notes to accompany, just in case you’re keen on only listening to certain segments.

The show notes:

* 00:00 – Krisandro starts us off – introductions all round
* 00:53 – The topic: How is Gen Y different in the work force?
* 01:28 – Will Gen Y mindset change during the recession?
* 02:26 – Gen Y has no qualms with changing jobs, even in a recession
* 03:39 – Perhaps Gen Y feels there isn’t enough recognition at work
* 05:08 – Did the media influence Gen Y’s outlook on life?
* 07:56 – How is Gen Y different outside the workspace in peer-to-peer interactions?
* 09:57 – How does online interaction affect offline interaction?
* 10:51 – Krisandro claims he’s 19
* 11:01 – Are there different norms that apply online and offline?
* 11:58 – Maybe it’s easier for us to verify if people are weirdos online
* 15:10 – Blooper!

My first try at a podcast and with a cast of really funny, interesting and friendly people. Look forward to more podcasts from the GenY-ers, there’ll be a rotating list of speakers to get some insights and ideas from. You can even play a drinking game when you’re tuned in, for everytime I use the word “like” (subconscious I tell you and I’m no valley girl!), down a gulp of beer/Coke/water/tea. Bet you’re gonna be bloated by the time the 20 minutes (or so) is up.
